THE AWARDS

The Pioneer Awards are designed to recognise and reward those of you who support us in pioneering “a different way of doing business”. Whether you are a company pioneering a new product, driving fresh ways of working, championing ethical trade or leading sustainable innovation – whatever your achievement, these awards are about championing your efforts.

Every one of our suppliers is in the running for an award. What’s even more exciting, this year the nominations will be selected by our Buyers with winners being crowned by the senior Co-op Food leaders.

OUR 11 AWARD CATEGORIES FOR 2021

Pioneer in Co-op Own Brand Product (Ambient, Fresh & Frozen)

This award celebrates exceptional efforts in developing, launching or re-launching Co-op own brand products/ranges during 2020 and 2021.

Suitable candidates for this award category will:

  • Innovate in product development
  • Pioneer new ways of engaging our customers and colleagues through visual merchandising, marketing, experiential activity
  • Promoting the brand and values of the Co-op

Pioneer in Branded Products (Ambient, Fresh & Frozen)

This award celebrates exceptional efforts in developing, launching or re-launching supplier branded products/ranges during 2020 and 2021.

Suitable candidates for this award category will:

  • Innovate in product development
  • Pioneer new ways of engaging our customers and colleagues through visual merchandising, marketing, experiential activity
  • Promoting the brand affinities and share values between the Co-op and supplier

Pioneer in Agriculture

This award recognises exceptional innovation in agriculture and farming.

Suitable candidates for this award category will:

  • Pioneered a specific idea or initiative that’s made a positive difference to how British customers eat (e.g. sustainable agriculture, reduction in pesticides, championing organic) and minimised the impact of agriculture on the environment.
  • Embraced progressive farming methods and establishing world leading quality standards to produce high quality, ethically reared animals or sustainable farming methods.

Pioneering ‘the Co-op Difference’

Celebrating a better way of doing business, the award looks to candidates who:

  • Support the Co-op to pioneer and take action on the things that matter most to customers and members.
  • This could include, but not be limited to, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to ethical human resource practice or dedication to pioneer sustainable initiatives in areas such as recycling or waste reduction.

Pioneers in Succeeding Together

Succeeding together is one of our ‘ways of being Co-op’. This award seeks candidates suppliers who collaborate with Co-op colleagues or other suppliers for to reach a shared business.

This award category invites nominations that encourage cross-functional work at both the Co-op and the supplier side.

Pioneer in Best Brand Launch

Celebrating exceptional efforts in pioneering community led retailing, this award will recognise those that support us to genuinely champion and support communities at a local level, supporting us in:

  • Genuinely supporting local communities to meet our customer needs e.g. during the winter floods offering emergency support
  • Supporting charitable causes & fundraising for the benefit of the local community
  • Creating bespoke/tailored services at a local level to support customer needs e.g. rural/urban dwellers

Pioneer in the Community

This award seeks exceptional efforts in pioneering community-led retailing. This award will recognise candidates that support the Co-op to genuinely champion and support communities at a local level through:

  • Helping deliver for local community needs (e.g. during the winter floods offering emergency support)
  • Supporting charitable causes and fundraising for the benefit of the local community
  • Creating bespoke/tailored services at a local level to support customer needs (e.g. rural/urban dwellers)

Pioneer in Inclusion and Diversity (sponsored by Grocery Girls)

This award recognises suppliers who have pioneered a specific idea or initiative that actively promotes and delivers greater inclusion and diversity in their workplace. Candidates will have delivered initiatives that have fostered a more diverse and inclusive workplace for all employees and a demonstrably positive impact on their ability to attract and retain talent.

Pioneer in Wholesale

This award looks to recognise suppliers who go over and above to understand the wholesale difference and deliver for Nisa partners and customers.

The award will recognise candidates who:

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Nisa trading model
  • Provide Nisa a differentiated offer in line with the trading model (such as promotions)

Supplier of the Year

The most prestigious award of the night will go to the most pioneering, innovative and supportive supplier over of the Co-op in the past twelve months. Candidates will demonstrate consistent support to the Co-op, helping the Co-op innovate and champion a better way of doing business.

Co-op “Local” Supplier of the Year

Celebrating exceptional innovation in agriculture and farming, this award will recognise suppliers and farmers who have:

  • Pioneered a specific idea or initiative that has made a positive difference to how British customers eat (e.g. sustainable agriculture, reduction in pesticides, championing organic) and minimised the impact of agriculture on the environment.
  • Embraced progressive farming methods and establishing world leading quality standards to produce high quality, ethically reared animals or sustainable farming methods
